Orange Dreamsicle Poke Cake




FOR THE CAKE
1 can 12oz. Orange soda
1 box white, yellow or orange cake mix
1 sm. pkg. orange Jello
1 Orange zested (optional)

FOR THE FROSTING
1 sm. pkg. vanilla instant pudding or orange jello
1 tub Cool Whip
Juice from the Orange (optional)



(1.) Mix cake mix and can of orange soda with orange zest (zest optional) with mixer for 2 mins. 

Pour into greased and floured 9"x13" pan. Bake as directed  time on package until cake comes clean from knife or toothpick. As soon as it is out of the oven, poke holes in it with a wooden spoon handle, or kitchen fork.



Pour the following over the hot cake with holes: 
1 package orange Jello dissolved in 1 cup boiling water, add 1 cup Orange soda or cold water, and stir well. Chill 9"x13" pan for 1 hour or overnight. 


FROSTING
Mix pudding as directed on package, add juice from 1 orange when mixing (optional).
Fold in the Cool Whip and frost the chilled cake.

(ALTERNATE FROSTING)
Instead of pudding use a pkg. of Orange Jello with juice from orange or 1/4 c. warm water then fold in cool whip.
Refrigerate 2 hours. Keep covered and serve when ready!
Serves 12.


OTHER FLAVOR IDEAS
As many of you know, Kroger has many flavors of Big K soda pop, play around with the recipe. Here are some ideas.

Brightly colored, Kroger brand soda.

(1.) Strawberry Soda with Strawberry Jello for the cake and Cheesecake flavor Jello with Cool Whip for the frosting for a yummy Strawberry Shortcake Flavor.

(2.) Watermelon Kiwi soda with Watermelon or Melon Fusion Jello for the cake, and pkg. of Watermelon Jello mixed with 1/4c. Watermelon Soda then folded with Cool Whip for frosting.

(3.) Pineapple Passionfruit Soda with Island Pineapple Jello

(4.) Cherry Cheesecake poke cake...  Use Cherry Jello, and black cerry or cherry cola and Cheesecake flavor Pudding for the frosting. Throw in some cherries into the cake mix before baking... Mmm Mmm Good!

FAYGO Soda Pop also has a great range of flavors as well, you can usually find Faygo at IGA stores, and some gas stations.
